Clothing
and Equipment: We
will rent boards, skis, and boots at Dodge Ridge. (There is no need to rent
these in the Bay Area. In fact, we probably won’t have room in the vehicles to
take them up.) You could also rent pants or a bib at Dodge, if you wanted, but
hardly anyone does that. (Ask around and see what your school friends have that
they will loan you.) Your SAYSO (or, other soccer) jacket will work as a jacket
over your thermal underwear, sweaters, and other layers. Bring sunglasses and
sun block. There is also a ski store at Dodge Ridge if you forget something and
don’t mind paying double for it.
Lessons: If you don’t snowboard or ski, or
haven’t in a long time, or are a beginner, you may want to take a lesson. There
are many advantages to the lesson (cost, safety, enjoyment.)
Schedule:

sooner than 8:30 a.m.); lessons start (9:00 a.m.); 12:00 lunch (in the lodge);
4:00 p.m. slopes close; return to cabin
Sunday
·
wake
up; get up; PACK UP; breakfast; leave for Dodge Ridge; rent equipment; on the
snow (no sooner than 8:30 a.m.); lessons start (9:00 a.m.); 12:00 lunch (in the
lodge); 4:00 p.m. slopes close; return to Belmont, probably close to 8:30 p.m.
Cost: (Fill in the “Cash Needed” blanks
below.) The cost of the learn-to-snowboard lesson is approximately $45 per day.
The lesson price includes your equipment rental (boots and board), a 2-hour
group lesson, and lift-tickets for the lower-hill lifts. Since it includes
everything, this is the best deal if you are beginner. You could even skip the
lesson. The only drawback to this plan is that only get to use the lower
mountain; you cannot use the steeper, longer runs.
Cost
of renting the equipment (board and boots but no lesson or lift ticket) is
approximately $30 per day (ages 13-19).
If
you have your own equipment, cost of lift tickets (no equipment or lesson) is
approximately $30 per day.
