| Question | Answer |
| Club Name | San Andreas Youth Soccer Organization (SAYSO) |
| Contact Person | Michael Lindeburg |
| Contact Person's Phone Number | (650) 593-5161 |
| Is it possible to join your club? | Yes. Strictly speaking, coaches don't bring teams into SAYSO. Rather, the coach and players register with US Club Soccer or a local USYS (e.g., CYSA) league through SAYSO. After registration, all of the players are assembled into teams by the SAYSO coaches. |
| What is the procedure for joining? What is the cost? | The procedure varies depending on the age, gender, and experience of your players, the time of the year and the league in which you want to play. It starts with an email or phone call to SAYSO. SAYSO and each of the leagues have player and adult registration forms. Your players may or may not participate in SAYSO tryouts. The cost per player ranges from approximately $125 for younger age groups to $250 for older age groups. Depending on the age group, the cost of uniforms may or may not be included in these amounts. |
| Is your club a corporation? Is it nonprofit? | SAYSO is a California corporation - a state and federal nonprofit organization. |
| Do you have monthly club meetings? When and where are they? When is your next meeting? May I attend? | SAYSO has monthly meetings of its coaches and team managers. These are generally held in Belmont on the third Tuesday of each month. You are welcome to attend. |
| How many teams are currently in your club? | (This changes with each season. SAYSO's teams are listed here. Additionally, SAYSO has a thriving U6/U7 academy and a goalkeeping academy. |
| Do you already have a team in this age/gender/class category? Is that a problem? | SAYSO registers players born on or after August 1, 1994. SAYSO does not have any teams for players born before that date. Because SAYSO is organized as an academy (as opposed to independent coach-directed teams), there is no problem with bringing in players in an existing age group. |
| Do I have complete control over who is on my team, or does your club pick and choose which players go on which team? | Coaches initially select the players who they "bring" into SAYSO. Depending on the time of year, these players may actually stay together for a season. Eventually, all of the coaches in one age group discuss and decide which players will play on which team. |
| Are there any residency requirements for the players? For the coach? | SAYSO does not have any residency requirements for players or coaches. |
| May I coach my own child? | If a parent is qualified and credentialed, a parent may register as a team official (coach, assistant coach, team manager, trainer, etc.) of his/her child's team. In addition to the regular team officials, an independent coach is required for class-1 teams U13 and older. |
| Does your club have minimum licensing requirements for club coaches? | SAYSO accepts the licensing requirements of the local leagues. In addition, SAYSO requires its coaches to attend three SAYSO-specific coaching seminars. |
| Are any of your coaches paid? Do I have to be paid? | Depending on the age and playing level of the teams, some SAYSO coaches are paid, and some are volunteers. Parents are generally not paid, regardless of their qualifications. |
| Do you provide referees or would I have to find my own? | SAYSO assigns referees to its games. |
| Do you schedule fields for practices? For games? | SAYSO schedules fields for practices and games. |
| Do you have a club uniform? Do I have to use it? | Yes, and Yes. |
| Can I have my own team checkbook? | No. As a nonprofit corporation, SAYSO has only one checking account which the SAYSO treasurer uses to pay all of your team expenses. |
| If I do team fundraising, can I keep all the money I raise? | All donations and proceeds of fundraising activities are deposited in the SAYSO bank account. Most fundraising activities benefit all SAYSO players. However, if funds are generated on behalf of specific team, those funds will be earmarked for that team. Since SAYSO is a nonprofit corporation, all fundraising activities must be approved. |
| What surcharge does your club place on each team? | SAYSO charges each team $200 per season for administrative support. This amount is prorated among all of a team's players. |
| What will I have to do/provide in order to belong to the club? | We would like to get to know you at a club meeting. There is a SAYSO coaching application to fill out. If you are not already credentialed, sometime before your first Fall game, you may have to take a weekend coaching course. |
