Jamborees v. Tournaments Competitive tournaments (with overall winners) for U10 teams and younger are not seen favorably by child development experts. "Jamborees", where there are no overall standings, winners, or trophies given (unless all teams receive them), are used to provide a weekend of play in a tournament-like environment. Jamborees do not generally charge entrance fees as large as traditional tournaments.

Travel and Lodging Except for a few tournaments (primarily international tournaments appealing to out-of-country youth teams), room and board are not provided by tournament organizations. Travel, lodging, and food are the responsibilities of the team's management. Tournaments typically "negotiate" special rates with one or more relatively local hotels/motels, which subsequently reserve a large block of rooms for tournament participants. However, teams are not required to use the recommended hotels. The AAA Guidebook is an excellent source of information when planning for overnight tournament stay in a distant city. |

CYSA-N Teams in CYSA-N Tournaments CYSA-N has established procedures for its own teams to follow when applying to its own tournaments, as well as for the administration of its own tournaments. Teams may only apply to a single tournament on any given weekend. A specific application form must be used, the application must be sent to the appropriate district tournament director (not the tournament's coordinator), and deadlines must be observed, among other requirements. Looking for a list of CYSA-N tournaments for U11and older teams? Click here. The tournament application procedure (as required of SAYSO coaches by SAYSO) is available by clicking here. AYSO, Super-Y League,
and US Club Soccer Teams in CYSA-N (USYS) Tournaments Teams from other USSF-affiliates (USCS, AYSO, Super-Y, etc.) may apply to and participate in only those CYSA-N tournaments that have approved to accept international teams. The term "out-of-state" appearing in the CYSA-N tournament schedule refers to other USYS-affiliates, such as CYSA-S and other state associations. "Out of state" is not the same as "International". CYSA-N PIM 02-1 ("Participation in CYSA Sanctioned Tournaments") governs this situation. In the absence of a tournament having international status, PIM 02-1 requires teams (players, coaches, administrators, and officials) not already registered with a USYS-affiliate to register with CYSA-N. |
CYSA-N Teams in AYSO,
Super-Y League, and US Club Soccer Tournaments CYSA-N's PIM 02-2 ("Coaches, Players, Team Officials, Administrators, and Teams Participating in non-USYS Sanctioned Tournaments or Events and Attempts to Abuse and Circumvent CYSA Rules and Procedures") specifies numerous qualifying conditions and requires the approval of the CYSA-N state board before a CYSA-N team may participate in events from other USSF-affiliates. Teams bypassing this approval process probably forfeit their CYSA-N insurance coverage. Groups of players wanting to participate in "unsanctioned events" may still be able to do so independently and should acquire about any optional insurance coverage provided by the event. |
