 The
San Andreas Youth Soccer Organization presents its annual
Tryouts for 2008 Gryphons Teams
Saturday and Sunday, December 1-2, and
December 8-9, Belmont,
CA
Tryouts are conducted by licensed
CYSA/USSF/international coaches.
An
opportunity for everyone to join the
Gryphons Soccer Academy and play on a Gryphons
competitive soccer team
The
San Andreas Youth Soccer Organization (SAYSO) offers advanced
training and competitive teams for soccer-playing boys and girls aged
5-13note
1. Each year,
prior to forming multiple select teams for the upcoming spring and fall
seasons, SAYSO schedules several open-to-the-public tryouts. If playing
soccer is fun for your child and family, you are invited to tryout for
SAYSO's Gryphons Soccer Academy teams. There is no cost to
participate in the tryout, and the event is fun and enjoyable to watch
as well as to participate in.
Teams that train in the Gryphons Soccer Academy play
competitive
club soccer (as distinguished from community-based
recreational soccer) at the highest levels in the state and nation.
Club teams are known by various other descriptions, such as "select",
"advanced", "CYSA" or "CY", "traveling", and "tournament teams".

brochure.]
We'd like you to become part of SAYSO's academy system. Here is a
listing of
SAYSO's current teams,
which enjoy considerable success - both on and off the field.
Up to its coaching and
fields capacity, SAYSO will form multiple teams in each age group and
gender from the players who try out. SAYSO has something for almost
every promising player. Some teams are for new-to-club-soccer players,
and others are for advanced players. Coaching of these teams is by
experienced, credentialed, and licensed coaches. The players on the
teams are able to stay and play together for succeeding years. Teams
play both spring and fall seasons, and players have opportunities to
participate in winter and summer events, as well.
Note 1: 5-, 6-, and some 7-year old players do not
need to try out to be accepted to the Crickets Soccer Academy
Sunday clinic program. They are accepted up to the capacity of the
program.

In case of rain
Bring
both soccer shoes (cleats) and running/court/tennis shoes for pavement use.
Wet
grass, a little drizzle, and a passing shower aren't going to cancel this
tryout. However, if it's pouring, if there's thunder, or if we'd ruin the
field by being on it, we have three back-up plans. (1) We'll go
indoors and use the Ralston Middle School gym onsite, (2) we'll reschedule
your age group to the next day (if it's raining on Saturday), or (3) we'll
reschedule your age group to an afternoon the following week. Regardless,
please arrive at Ralston (during the rain) and enter the gym where we'll
have an information desk, so we can tell you which alternative plan is being
used.
We'll also update the Announcements page
of this website. Click here just before
you hop in the car to come to tryouts. |

Who Should Participate
Boys and Girls, ages 7-13 (U8-U13)
who ...
... are among the top players on
their community recreational (AYSO) soccer teams.
... are ready for more challenging play.
... want to play with equally-talented, skilled, and motivated players.
... want to benefit from experienced coaching.
... want to play at higher levels than are
available in recreational soccer.
Players Already On Other Club
Teams
These tryouts are for
2008 teams. You may change CYSA teams without restriction (a) as soon as
your current team's 2007 fall and State Cup (or, Association Cup) seasons are finished, or (b)
anytime that you initiate the move and contact the new team yourself. US
Club Soccer does not have any transfer limitations, and you may transfer
between teams at any time and for any reason. For more information, follow
this link.
Goalkeepers
SAYSO treasures goalkeepers and wants them to attend these tryouts.
However, goalkeeping skills are not evaluated at these
tryouts. If you child has goalkeeper skills, please contact SAYSO to
arrange for special goalkeeping sessions to be held at your convenience.

About the Tryout Process
We'll
make it as easy as possible for you to get to know us. When you arrive,
we'll collect your
Permission to Tryout form (see below), and we'll give your child a
tryout number (bib) to wear. Then, your child will visit
approximately 10 different stations on the field in any sequence. Carnival-atmosphere
station events include fun, low-pressure activities that all
children just naturally like to do. Players will be asked to
demonstrate simple soccer skills (e.g., running with, shooting, and
passing the ball) and athletic abilities (e.g., jumping and running
forward and backward). They will participate in one or more
10-minute practice games against one or more opponents.
1-3 credentialed, licensed, non-parent coaches monitor each station and
record the results (elapsed times, number of successful passes and shots,
etc.) At stations with multiple coaches, all coaches record their own
results independently.
The entire tryout process takes approximately 2 hours. You may accompany,
observe, and encourage your child at all times.
What to Bring/What to Wear
Your child should dress as if playing in a
game, and he/she may wear an old uniform or any comfortable shorts and
shirts. Shin guards and closed-toe footwear must be worn. No other special
clothing is required. The event is not highly strenuous, but you should
bring your own water and sunscreen.
Tryout Results
Tryout results will be carefully
considered by all coaches in your child's age group. You will be able to
view anonymous tryout results by
clicking here on the Wednesday evening following the tryouts.
Players do not receive a consultation with a coach or a report on the day
of the tryout, as the decisions are not made by single individuals. |
|
Please Bring This Form
Space
is limited to approximately 50 players of each gender in each session.
Players greatly in excess
of that quantity, or players that arrive after the tryouts have begun may
be asked to tryout with a different age group or return on a different
day.
The Permission to Try Out form below will be given to you
when you arrive and must be completed before your child can participate.
To save time, if you
wish, you may print out and bring the completed form with you.
We also request, though it is not required, that you bring a copy of your
child's birth certificate, passport, or other proof of age when you try
out. Proof of age is required of all players who register for team play.
|
If Your Child Cannot Attend
If your child is available on the day indicated but not at the time
designated for his/her age group, you may request that he/she try out at a
different time with an older or younger age group. His/her tryout results
will be grouped with those of same-gender children in his/her age group.
Alternatively, you may tryout on the alternative date with other players
who were unable to attend the regularly scheduled tryouts.
If your child's performance is adversely
affected by recent illness or injury, weather, clothing or equipment
malfunction, or scheduling conflict, he/she may participate again in a
subsequent tryout, or you may request to try out at an upcoming practice
with the team of your choice, or you may request an individual, one-on-one
evaluation with a SAYSO coach.
Trying out at a practice is easy. Basically, you just show up
at one of the team's regular practices and introduce
yourself to one of the coaches on the field. Then, your child will be
included in the team's activities. You may stay and watch the
entire practice. Your coach will usually request that you return 1-2
additional times.
To tryout at a different time or at a practice, or to arrange a one-on-one evaluation, send us an
email or call us at (650) 593-5161 ext. 1015 so that we can tell you when
and where the teams in your age group are meeting. The office staff will also ask that you
print out, complete, and sign, and bring to practice the
Permission to Try Out form to the left. |
