Spring Soccer League
A SAYSO Rec-to-Comp Program
Each Spring, the San Andreas Youth Soccer
Organization (SAYSO) offers a Spring soccer program
for mid-Peninsula and East Bay boys
and girls. For Spring 2004, all age groups, U6 to U18,
are
represented. This league is open to
new and pre-existing teams (AYSO, PAL, CYSA, Boys and Girls Club, indoor, etc.) as well as
to individual at-large players who want to be formed into teams.
THE “WHO”
-
Individuals:
"at-large" -- boys and girls.
-
Teams:
New and pre-existing boys and girls soccer teams (AYSO,
PAL, Boys and Girls Club, school, CYSA, and indoor) from the North Bay,
Peninsula, South Bay, and East Bay
-
Adults: There are adult opportunities for referees, coaches,
and other league administrators. Contact the SAYSO office at
info@sayso.org
or (650) 593-5161.
-
U9 and
younger teams must have a minimum of 6 players and
may have a maximum of
13 players. U10-U18 teams
must have a minimum of 8 players and may have a maximum of 24 players.
-
All players must be born on or after August 1, 1997.
(Hot Shots
2004 Spring
league age designations are equivalent to Fall 2003.)
-
Players who are not currently on a team will be matched
to an existing team if possible.
THE “WHAT”
-
Teams compete
on Saturdays or Sunday afternoons for 10 weeks - boys
against boys, and girls against girls.
-
For U11-U18 teams, games are 11 v 11, and standard
goals, fields, and youth game durations are used.
-
For U6-U9, games are
7 v 7 (includes goalkeepers), with a
minimum of 6 players per team on the field at a time. U10 modified rules (e.g., all indirect free kicks,
"do-overs" for foul throws, and no PKs) are used. Teams play for 60-75 minutes (includes breaks), rotating among adjacent fields, and playing short "mini-games" against
2-3 other teams. There may or may not be a break between subsequent games. There
are no restrictions as to how much or how little a player plays. Goalkeepers do
not need to be rotated. “On-the-fly”
substitutions are allowed to maximize players’ field experience. Whenever you
want, call a player off and put another on. SAYSO provides
the field, goals, pinnies, and referees
on game days. Players provide their own shin guards and footwear.
Age-appropriate small goals and fields are used to maximize the numbers of
“touches” and turnovers. All games are refereed by experienced USSF certified
adult officials who enforce players’ safety and positive parent sideline
cheering.
Offside and out-of-bounds are called only in
egregious cases. Let the kids play! Referees provide on-field instruction when the need
is apparent.
-
SAYSO provides uniforms, although teams may use their previous Fall uniforms or any team
jersey/T-shirt as long as the jerseys match and are numbered on the back.
-
Games rained out will not be rescheduled. Check the
SAYSO
Announcements on this web site prior to attending
games

Hot Shots Spring League Games - Central
Elementary School
Mothers' Day - May 11, 2003
THE "HOW MUCH"
-
The registration
fee is $65 per player for teams using their own jerseys. Add $20 per player if
you want the league to provide numbered uniform sets (jersey, shorts, socks).
-
Registration fees includes
membership in US Club Soccer, a participation pin for all players, awards for coaches and all players on the 1st
and 2nd place teams, USSF certified referees, a player pass for each
player and team official (good for all US Club Soccer events through July 31,
2004), and accident insurance.
THE “WHY”
-
Hot Shots players love to play soccer and can’t get enough of
it.
-
High-potential and
elite-track players need more than a few months of Fall soccer in order to
fully develop.
-
Coaches can refine their
coaching skills by seeing what other coaches and teams of talented players are
doing.
-
The
Hot Shots Spring Soccer
League is the easiest way for coaches and players to make the transition to
higher-level competition.
-
SAYSO wants to get to know
you and your child.
-
Just because it's fun!
THE “WHEN”
-
Registration for
new and existing teams is now open.
-
Registration for players not currently on a team
is also now open. SAYSO will assemble
at-large players into teams or will match individuals with existing teams.
-
Games will be
held on 8-10 weekends in March, April, and May, avoiding public and religious holidays.
THE “WHERE”
-
Spring
field allocations have not yet been finalized by the cities.
-
A team may select the
geographical pocket it wants to play in.

The
"Fine Print"
-
Space is limited.
Completed team and individual
registration packages will be accepted in the order received, up to the
capacity of the program.
-
Each team, including those created by assembling
"at-large" players, must have at least one adult designated as the
team official
(i.e., coach or manager). If a team is formed and no adult is available to serve as the team
official, the team will not be able to participate until an adult is designated.
-
All teams obtain their own practice facilities, set
their own practice schedule, and provide a game field for their home games.
