About
the Camp
Soccer is
an exciting and fun sport for player and parent alike! No wonder that youth
soccer has become the most popular youth sport in the United States,
bypassing basketball years ago in terms of number of youth players
participating.
The San Andreas Youth Soccer
Organization (SAYSO) is a
nonprofit regional development academy providing nonprofit instruction for
high-potential and naturally-competitive players. It has been training youth
players in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1992. Its
Grasshoppies
(3-4 year olds),
Crickets (4-7 year
olds), Super-7
(7-8 year olds), and
Gryphons
(U8-U18)
Soccer Academies, as well as its
indoor soccer league are well established and respected in the
community.
First offered in 1997, SAYSO's
Champions Soccer Academy lets
your child learn the
same skills and strategies taught to players in SAYSO's academies.
With the tips and techniques learned at this camp, your child will stand out
and be ready for school and league games.

Our
Most-Frequently-Asked Questions
(FAQs)
About the
Champions Summer Soccer
Academy
1. My child is new to soccer and has never before played. Is this camp an
appropriate activity for him/her?
Answer: Anyone can participate in this program, even players who have
never before played soccer. All
children already know how to run, kick, bump into one another, and (sometimes)
fall down. The rules of the game are not complicated. It will only take one
or two exposures (or, less) for your child to figure out what he/she should be
doing. The only real requirements are a desire to have
fun and a naturally competitive constitution. Soccer is an activity with
lots of running, lots of opportunities to be first to the ball, and lots of
opportunities to be challenged, competitive, and aggressive. There is
nothing in the game to be frightened of - it's a safe sporting activity. However, a very small number of children
are too small, timid, or immature (mentally, socially, or physically) to enjoy this game fully. Most
children consider this to be the most fun camp they have all year.
2. My child is 2, 3, or 4 years old. Is
this camp an appropriate activity for him/her?
Answer: The youngest age division in this
camp is U6. U6 players are mostly 5 and young 6 year olds. The determining
characteristics for younger players are being feisty, fearless, resilient,
and independent, and, to a lesser extent, being tall and physically
developed. 4 year-olds and younger generally are too small in size and
stature, too timid, and too immature to play against 6 year olds. For the
youngest players who would like
a gentler introduction to soccer, SAYSO offers the
Crickets Soccer Academy
each spring and fall.
3. May my two
children stay together in the academy? May my daughter stay with my son?
Answer: Yes, with the coach's permission, and provided that by doing
so, there are no significant safety or skills mismatch issues.
4. My
child has talent and already knows how to play. Will he/she receive separate
instruction from new players?
Answer: Players will
be grouped by a combination of factors including skill, aggressiveness, age,
gender, and size.
5. My son (daughter) doesn't like playing
with girls (boys). Will you have some groups just for boys (girls)?
Answer:
Whenever possible, we segregate groups by gender. However, it is more
important to group players by skill and aggression. However, you may request
a gender-specific group for your child.
6. We have been to camps
that have accented the "camp" aspect rather than the "soccer" aspect. I
don't want a camp that just baby-sits. Will the players really learn
something?
Answer: This is a soccer camp, not day care. Players will spend their
time learning soccer skills and strategies.
7. What is your refund policy?
Answer: Because we hire top coaches based on the
number of players enrolled each session, we cannot give refunds after June
1. Up to June 1st, refunds are given less a non-refundable $50 processing
fee.
